500 Mercer / LUMEN
Seattle, WA
Architecture and landscape architecture for a mixed-use residential condominium in Uptown.
Celebrated as one of the most exciting new construction projects in Seattle, LUMEN at 500 Mercer combines a grocery store, retail and 94 condominiums over two stories of underground parking. The innovative design, constructed of concrete, glass and steel, forms a wonderful addition to the Uptown neighborhood. Open and adaptable residential floor plans maximize natural light. The site slopes 18 feet; this potential design challenge was transformed into an opportunity by locating retail and residential entrances at opposite ends of the building, resulting in more privacy for residents.
Private terrace gardens surround a 52-foot-wide courtyard that creates a park-like setting. The project is part of Potlatch Trail, a pedestrian and bicycle trail that will connect South Lake Union Park to the Seattle Center and the Olympic Sculpture Park on the waterfront.
