Harbor Steps
Seattle, WA

Architecture and landscape architecture for mixed-use residential towers in Seattle’s central business district.

Harbor Steps is an award-winning, mixed-use project in the heart of Seattle's central business district. It is comprised of four mixed-use towers surrounding the iconic terraced park, designed by Arthur Erickson, which connects to the waterfront.

Hewitt’s work on the project began as design consultant and landscape architect for the first phase - the southwest tower. The second phase, or east tower, included architectural and landscape architectural design of a 25-story building with apartments, street-level retail, a boutique hotel with balconies that overlook an interior courtyard, a 250-car parking garage and the extension and redesign of Post Alley. Amenities for the east tower include a restaurant with an outdoor dining terrace, plazas, semiprivate terraces, conference center and fitness facilities with a pool.

The third and final phase, Harbor Steps North, involves two mixed-use towers connected by an overhead walkway that creates unique connection from the towers to the surrounding neighborhood. In addition to 282 residential units, the project includes retail and office space. Renovations to Post Alley, the north-south pedestrian corridor that links the Pike Place Market with Pioneer Square, were also completed during this final phase.

The total project includes 734 apartments, 31,000 square feet of office space, 51,600 square feet of retail space, a daycare center, a 25-room boutique hotel, a conference center, restaurants and underground parking for 640 cars.
